Shelton History

The present day town of Shelton was originally a part of Stratford. It was separated from the town in 1789 and named Huntington. It was evenutaly named Shelton in honor of Edward N. Shelton, the founder of the Shelton Company and Ousatonic Water Power Company. Shelton also promoted the construction of the Derby - Shelton Dam. The area was incorporated as a city in 1915.
