Cornelius History

The present day Town of Cornelius was founded in 1893. Originally, it was a small mill and farming community. The town was incorporated on March 4, 1905. At that time, it was named Liverpool. Later on, the town was renamed to Cornelius after Joseph Benjamin Cornelius, the principal shareholder of the first cotton mill of the area.
