Newport History

Newport was settled around the year 1791. It was incorporated in the year 1795 as a town and was chartered as a city in 1850. Newport is settled around the land which was granted to George Muse. James Taylor Sr purchased the land. His son, James Taylor, Jr. was one of the early setters. In 1803, Fort Washington was moved from Cincinnati to form the Newport Barracks. Newport was once referred to as "Sin City" because of its upscale gambling casinos.
